In conjunction with Malaysia National Women’s Day today, Wanita MCA
will establish a centre named Women’s Legal and Advisory Aid Centre at
Wisma MCA which is expected to be finalized before 1 Oct 2014.
The main objective is to offer legal consultation services and
advice to women especially women who are victims of sexual harassment,
domestic violence and etc.
Adding that “the counseling service is open to all Malaysians
irrespective race, background, religion which includes Syariah and civil
law, problems with loan sharks, family law on family matters and
marriage.
Emphasising that this latest programme by Wanita MCA to uplift the
rights of women is open to all races in Malaysia but the service is limited to women only.
The main aim is to empower the rights and interests of women
especially in defending their legal rights so that they are given help
and protection in case they encounter problems or threats from any
quarters.
Women’s Legal and Advisory Aid Centre will liaise with Bukit Aman’s
Sexual Women and Child Investigation Division on cases received. It will
also liaise with the Legal Aid Bureau from both the Prime Minister’s
Department where such matters come under the purview of Dato’ Nancy
Shukri, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department as well as the Legal
Aid Bureau from the Bar Council.
The Wanita MCA Women’s Legal and Advisory Aid Centre will be
officially launched on 11 October 2014 during the Wanita MCA Annual
General Assembly.
