Local residents and MCA leaders attending a Women’s Day celebration here lit candles to pray for the safety of the passengers onboard the missing MH370 flight.
The event, organised by Wanita MCA in conjunction with International
Women’s Day, received an overwhelming response with more than 2,500
people taking part.
MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, who is representing
Barisan Nasional in the Kajang by-election, also gave out roses to the
women in appreciation of their contributions to the society.
Tan Sri Chow Poh Kheng, the first Wanita MCA chief, was also present at the event in support of Chew.
She sang a Cantonese opera number Yau Lung Hei Fung (loosely translated as The Romance of Dragon and Phoenix) with Anne Lim.
Party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who was also present,
said that the status of women is rising, and that they form an
important component in nation building.
